Abstract
This research was aimed to get the empirical evidence on the effect of Guessing game technique on
students’ Reading Comprehension of Descriptive Text at the Seven Grade of SMP Muhammadiyah
3 Bandar Lampung in Academic Year 2023/2024. This research used quantitative method and the
research design used is pre-experimental design. The population of this research is the Seven�grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. The sample technique used purposive
sampling that consist of 32 students.
The instrument of this research was multiple choice test, including pre-test and post- test. The result
of this research was obtained from calculating the data using SPSS the significance level (α) = 0.05
and also calculated the effect size. The result of this research showed that there was improvement
ofthe students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text. Gained score obtained during the post�test after Guessing game technique was applied (80. 62) was higher than the pre-test score which
had not been applied to the Guessing game technique. (50.15). From the results of statistical
calculations, it can be concluded that the students' reading comprehension skill experienced a
significant increase. In other words, the Alternative Hypothesis (Hₐ) is accepted and the Null
Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.Therefore, the Guessing game Technique is effective toward students'
reading comprehension skillin descriptive texts.
